Holiday schedules can get complicated in a hurry. One department closes early. Another works through the weekend. Deliveries arrive on a different schedule, and the person who normally locks the back gate is on vacation.
Each change may seem minor. Together, they can leave parts of your property without the attention they normally receive.
Before Thanksgiving and Christmas schedules take effect, take a few minutes to review what will happen at your business when the usual routine changes.
Give Every Closing Task an Owner
“Somebody will take care of it” is not much of a security plan.
Decide who will check exterior doors, secure gates, confirm that visitors and contractors have left, and complete the final walkthrough. Name a backup for anyone taking time off.
Write those responsibilities down and make sure the people involved understand them. A clear handoff helps prevent a task from being missed because everyone assumed someone else had it covered.
Plan for the Delivery That Arrives After Closing
Your employees may know you are closing early. Your vendors, maintenance crews, and delivery drivers need that information, too.
Confirm expected arrivals and establish who can authorize access when staffing is reduced. Give drivers and contractors a contact who will actually be available.
A last-minute delivery should not leave an employee guessing about whether to open a restricted area or leave a gate unsecured.
Walk the Property After Dark
A property that looks fine during business hours can look very different after everyone leaves.
Check the lighting around employee exits, parking areas, loading docks, and storage areas. Look for doors that do not latch properly, damaged fencing, and equipment left outside its usual secure location.
Address the issues you find before the holiday break. If a repair cannot be completed in time, discuss what additional precautions or coverage may be appropriate.
Know Who Will Answer the Call
An alarm notification is only useful if someone is prepared to act on it.
Review your contact list and confirm who will be available during the closure. If the primary contact is traveling or unavailable, identify a backup and make sure that information reaches the appropriate people.
For any security coverage you arrange, agree on what should be reported, who should be contacted, and how concerns will be handled.
Match Your Coverage to Your Holiday Schedule
An empty warehouse, an office with a small weekend crew, and a retail property staying open later have different needs.
Maxxguard offers temporary security officers, mobile patrols, and overnight, weekend, and holiday coverage. Depending on your property and the services arranged, patrols can include checking entrances, observing unusual activity, and identifying visible concerns such as damaged windows or broken exterior lights.
Talk through your schedule before the break begins so the coverage can reflect what your business actually needs.
